BSNL signs MoU with Facebook, Mobikwick and Disney India

bsnl-signs-mou-with-facebook-mobikwick-and-disney-indiaBharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL),  state-owned telecommunications company has signed MoU with Facebook, Mobikwik, and Disneyland India to commemorate World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which is celebrated worldwide on May 17. The tie-up aims to increase BSNL’s foothold amongst Indian consumers with its Internet and value-added services. Also, it’s a step towards gaining an edge over private players such as Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Jio and more, currently dominating the market share in the country.

  • The social media website, Facebook through public hotspots offers internet facility in rural parts of the country, under the Express Wi-Fi Service, with a partnership with other telecom operators.  As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Facebook, BSNL has joined in as a partner Internet service provider to facilitate internet connectivity for Facebook’s  ‘Express Wi-Fi Program.‘ Facebook rolled out its ‘Express Wi-Fi’ Project’ in India earlier this month. The Express Wi-Fi Project aims to empower local entrepreneurs to help provide quality Internet access to their neighbours and make a steady income.
  • BSNL along with MobiKwik will work together to co-create a BSNL mobile wallet to facilitate payment for its services and products, under the MoU. In addition to this, the digital payments firm will through its app and website exclusively also enable “digital sale” of BSNL sim cards.
  • The telecom operator in its filing to the exchange also added that it has inked a third MoU with Disneyland India which will provide its telecom customers premium online gaming services.
